Earthquake Project

It was a powerful earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale that struck the area between Kathmandu and Pokhara at 11:56 local time on Saturday, 25 April 2015. Its epicenter was about 80 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu, but its effects were felt throughout 57 of Nepal's 75 districts. Further damage and loss of life resulted from a series of aftershocks. The earthquake and its aftershocks affected eight million people and resulted in the deaths of 8,896 and injuries of 22,303. The lack of shelter and sanitation caused great risk factors for disease as more and more people fled their homes and lived next to their damaged homes.

BLSO worked actively along with its volunteers. The affected were supported by a number of national and international social organizations. In a similar way, BLSO worked actively with its volunteers to provide emergency support.  We are very thankful to our donors, team members, and well-wishers. Your help support and dedication during this critical time are appreciated. We look forward to getting such helping hands in the future as well. Activities, BLSO carried at those very mourning moments are as follows:

On 26th April 2015, BLSO mobilized volunteers in Balaju, Kathmandu. They coordinated with Armed Police Force and Chinese Rescue Team, rescued three people alive, and brought out many dead bodies. Some members of BLSO even organized awareness programs regarding earthquakes and how people can stay safe from them.

On 27th April 2015, BLSO assisted the riverside people of Bhaktapur whom it has been serving since its establishment. BLSO provided foodstuffs and financial aid to the people over there. It even provided medical treatment to the six injured people and hospitalized them. On the same day, some team members observed victims in Tundikhel, Kathmandu, and help them with food and water.

On 28th April, BLSO moved to Karyabinayak, Lalitpur, and made data on the earthquake victims.13 houses broke down so, BLSO distributed them tents to live in.

On 29th April, one of the team members Rohit Neupane took a survey of earthquake victims of Deupur VDC, Kavrepalanchowk district, and helped them in building temporary homes of bamboo and steel and supplied them with basic needs.

From May 1st, BLSO moved towards the villages of Dolakha, Ramechhap, and Sindupalchowk and provided them with basic needs like foodstuffs, mineral water bottles, and warm blankets. We have been distributing “piyus” for purifying water and sanitary pads for females as well.

On 20th May, BLSO helped the victims of Aalapoth, Bhadrabash. There were 23 family members and BLSO provided 20 sacks of rice and other food items along with financial aid to them.
On 23rd May, BLSO went to Majhifeda VDC of Kavrepalanchowk district in collaboration with Himalayan Parivaar(German Nepalese Committee) and staff of Vayodha Hospital along with 33 volunteers and 15 medical teams. The VDC consists of 723 houses. The program was successful since people were very happy and thankful to us. Foodstuffs like rice, daal, salt, oil, beaten rice, biscuit, sugar, and chocolate were distributed. Doctors checked up on each individual and provided medical aid. Masks, water purifiers, sanitary pads, medical gel, medicines, nail cutters, toothpaste, brush, and hair comb were given to them.

On 25th May, BLSO helped 500 students of Sipa Public Higher Secondary School, Sindhupalchowk with reading materials.

BLSO has always been there for people since its beginning and BLSO will stand together for people in the coming future as well. After all, we believe in “serving humanity”.
